Nura

Safety Standards

How Nura protects your family.

Nura is built around people you already know, the friend, neighbor, or fellow parent you would actually ask for help. Safety here is about keeping you in control of what gets sent, keeping your family's information private, and making it easy to step back at any time.

Here is exactly what we do and what we are building next.

Principle 01

Nothing is sent without your say-so.

Active

Nura prepares message drafts for the person you want to reach, but never sends anything automatically. You review and approve every message before it goes out.

  • Message drafts are prepared, not sent, until you approve them
  • No automated outreach on your behalf

Principle 02

There is no public directory or stranger matching.

Active

Nura helps you reach a specific person you already have in mind, a friend, a neighbor, someone from school pickup, not someone the app introduces you to. There is no search, browse, or discovery feature for finding families you do not already know.

  • No public profiles or family directory
  • You bring the relationship, Nura helps you act on it

Principle 03

Every account requires a verified email.

Active

Creating a Nura account requires email verification. If you opt in to text notifications, we also verify your phone number.

  • Email verification required at signup
  • Optional phone verification for SMS notifications

Principle 04

We do not vet, screen, or background-check anyone.

Active

Nura does not perform background checks on users. We are direct about this so you can make an informed decision.

Before asking someone you do not know well, we encourage independent verification.

Principle 05

Optional identity verification, so you know who you're talking to.

Coming soon

We are evaluating an optional government-ID verification step. It confirms that someone is who they say they are, it is not a judgment about whether they'd make a good caregiver, and it is never required. Nura will not store your ID documents directly.

  • Confirms identity only, not trustworthiness as a caregiver
  • Verification will always be optional
  • ID documents will not be stored by Nura

Principle 06

Your family's information is never shared or sold.

Active

Details you share about your family, such as your children's ages, are visible only to the people you choose to share them with. Nura does not sell or use children's personal information for advertising.

Principle 07

Nura does not carry insurance for childcare arrangements.

Active

We are direct about this too: Nura does not carry insurance covering injury, loss, or damage arising from a childcare arrangement made through the Services. Standard homeowners or renters insurance does not always cover childcare-related incidents, especially for arrangements that are regular or recurring rather than a one-time favor, so do not assume it applies. Check with your own insurance provider about what is and is not covered.

How these relationships stay healthy

These are the practices that make support feel good on both sides.

Nura works best when everyone is clear about what they can offer and communicates early when things change.

Be upfront about your availability, even when it changes

Give as much notice as you can when you cannot help

Keep private conversations private

If something feels off, say so, to us or to each other

If something does not feel right.

Even within existing relationships, things can get complicated. If something about a conversation or a plan feels uncomfortable, you can flag it privately and reach our team directly.

Report or block anyone in-app at any time

Step back from a plan or conversation at any time

Reach out any time you have a concern

What we collect and why.

Only what is needed to help you build your plan. Nothing more.

Nura only collects what is needed to help you build and act on your plan. Your preferences and plan details stay private to the people you choose to share them with.

  • Your data is encrypted and never sold
  • Your plan details are visible only to the people you choose to share them with
  • ID verification, when available, will be handled by a secure third-party provider, not stored by Nura directly

A note

For parents in survival mode.

We know childcare emergencies create pressure to say yes to anyone. When you are desperate, the bar drops, and that is completely human.

Nura is designed to slow that moment down. Not to add friction, but to make sure you are reaching out to someone you have already decided to trust, before the emergency happens, not during it.

This is why we encourage settling on a plan with someone before you need to lean on them in a pinch. Fifteen minutes at school pickup or a quick coffee is enough. It makes everything that follows feel like a decision you made, not a decision desperation made for you.

We are building this carefully and we are not done.

If you have a safety concern or a question that is not answered here, we want to hear from you.
